from band's website - While Brazilian natives Papiba Godinho and Dandha da Hora bring their profound knowledge and respect for the roots of Afro-brazilian song and dance, the entire band has developed a type of samba-reggae-funk with a universal appeal. SambaDá musically unites the Americas, drawing from percussion based styles of South and Central America, and blends it with that good old funk and reggae back beat so familiar to crowds of North America.
For over twenty years, SambaDá has been mixing contemporary sounds with the roots of brazilian culture. Papiba is a master of Capoeira, an Afro Brazilian martial art form created by Brazilian slaves, which draws on music and acrobatic movements. Dandha was born into the rich Afro Brazilian traditions of Salvador, Bahia and the Carnival Group Ile Aiye, and started her dancing career at age 6. Ilê Aiyê has been in the forefront of Civil Rights in Brazil, promoting equality and justice, and is widely recognized as the first Afro Brazilian BLOCO or group to perform in Brazil’s notorious Carnival celebrations.
The other members of SambaDá come from a wide range of styles, generations and sensibilities. What unites this band from such diverse backgrounds is a magic that can be felt by both the band and the audience. SambaDá brings joy to each performance, and keeps their fans asking for more!!

The David Nelson Band has been recording and performing around the country since 1994. Their broad musical palette spans the Almost Acoustic style that Nelson played with Jerry Garcia, through roots rock n’ roll, and psychedelic country-rock. The DNB perform David’s compositions (many co-written with Grateful Dead lyricist Robert Hunter), select covers, and several Grateful Dead classics upon which Nelson appeared on the original album releases.

These stylistic elements, combined with plenty of spontaneous free form improvisation, create a sound that is uniquely David Nelson Band. Though the original songs are mostly written by Nelson, the development of all the material is a fully collaborative effort.

These days the DNB only tour select areas a few times a year, as the individual band members are in high demand with other successful touring acts. Their loyal and enthusiastic fans relish these special times to reunite at Nelson family gatherings. DNB shows are a joyous reunion for all – a communal gathering where regulars and newcomers all feel part of an extended family. Each show, being unique and exploratory in nature, is a magical adventure for band and audience alike.

David Nelson (guitar/ vocals) Founding member of the New Riders of the Purple Sage and long time musical partner of Jerry Garcia’s dating back to 1962 in the pre-Grateful Dead bluegrass band, The Wildwood Boys. Nelson was also a member of the Jerry Garcia Acoustic B and (and appears on their 1988 album release “Almost Acoustic” and 2010’s “Ragged But Right”) and performed on three Grateful Dead albums – “Aoxomoxoa”, “Workingman’s Dead” & “American Beauty” – playing the iconic electric guitar solo on ‘Box of Rain’. Nelson has also performed as a member of Phil Lesh and Friends.

Barry Sless – (lead guitar/ pedal steel) Currently tours with Bobby Weir and The Wolf Brothers and Moonalice. He has been a frequent member of Phil Lesh and Friends touring and local lineups since 2004. He’s toured with Chris Robinson’s Green Leaf Rustlers (and appears on their 2020 album release, From Within Marin), Kingfish, Cowboy Jazz, the Rowan Brothers, and Great American Taxi. Barry’s pedal steel can be heard on selected tracks from Chris Robinson Brotherhood albums “Any Way You Love, We Know How You Feel”, “If You Lived Here, You Would Be Home By Now”, and “Barefoot In The Head”. Barry is a founding member of the David Nelson Band.

Mookie Siegel (keyboards/ vocals) Has been a member of and toured with Bob Weir’s Ratdog, Phil Lesh and Friends, Kingfish, Donna Jean and the Tricksters, Steve Kimock Band and Jerry Joseph and the Jackmormons. Mookie is an original member of DNB.

Pete Sears (bass/ vocals) Was the bassist and keyboard player for the original Jefferson Starship from 1974-1987, keyboardist for Hot Tuna from 1992 to 2001 and currently performs with Moonalice and Zero. He’s a member of Chris Robinson’s Green Leaf Rustlers, has played with Phil Lesh and Friends and appears on their 1999 release, ‘Love Will See You Thru’. Pete began his career in England in 1964 and has performed with many artists including Jerry Garcia, John Cipollina, and appears on Rod Stewart’s classic early British albums. Pete joined the David Nelson Band in 2005.

Wally Ingram (drums and percussion) Has recorded, toured and played with countless acts including Bob Weir & Phil Lesh, Anders Osborne, Leftover Salmon, Steve Kimock Band, Sheryl Crow, Jackson Browne, Eric Burdon and The Animals, Timbuk3, David Lindley, and was a founding member of Stockholm Syndrome (with Widespread Panic’s Dave Schools & Jerry Joseph), to name but a few. Wally began playing with the David Nelson Band in 2013.

Jive Machine is uniquely able to incorporate new ideas while paying homage to the great artists who came before them. The band is defined by a strong rhythmic foundation, infectious melodies, tasteful lead guitar virtuosity, and crisp horn lines. Recently, Jive Machine has become notorious for their "pop-up" performances in downtown Santa Cruz. Goapele returned to Oakland after her time at Berklee College of Music, where she concentrated on writing and recording songs. In 2001, she self-released her debut album, Closer, which sold 5,000 copies.[16] At the same time, she was building a devoted audience through her popular live performances in the San Francisco Bay Area. "Closer" peaked at No. 63 on Billboard's Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart
In 2002, she reworked Closer, adding five new songs. With the help of her family, she formed her own independent label, Skyblaze Recordings, to oversee her musical career. She released her first nationally distributed album, Even Closer, featuring the single "Closer," through Hieroglyphics Imperium Recordings. "Closer" was also featured on the soundtrack of the 2003 movie Honey. In 2004, Columbia/SME picked up Skyblaze Recordings for worldwide distribution and rereleased the album with additional tracks. She co-wrote and co-produced the entire album, which is a mixture of neo-soul, trip hop, lieder, and jazz. She also toured North America with the band Spearhead.
